Image is an 1890’s copy of a pre-war image of Burleigh K. Jones. He wears a dark civilian suit, white shirt and dark bowtie. Bottom of the mount has a printed caption that reads “BURLEIGH K. JONES CO. B.”

Image has good contrast and clarity. Paper and mount have light edge wear.

Reverse has name and company in modern ink. Glued to the back is a paper label written in pen. Label looks to date from the early 1900’s. It reads BURLEIGH K. JONES- BORN CORNISH, N.H. FEBRAURY 11, 1842. ENLISTED CONCORD, N.H. AUG. 2/61. MUSTERED IN SEPT. 2, 1861. JOINED  CO. B. 2ND REGT. N.H. VOLS. AT BLADENSBURG, VA. WOUNDED FAIR OAK VA. JUNE 25, 1861, DIED FORTRESS MONROE VA JULY 1, 1861”

There are some errors in this inscription which are corrected by the military record. The battle Jones was wounded in was Oak Grove and it was fought on June 25, 1862. Jones died on board the hospital ship ST. MARK while it as anchored in Hampton Roads, Virginia on July 1, 1862.

He is buried in Contoocook Village Cemetery in Contoocook, New Hampshire.  [ad]
