$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 224-238

Image shows the National colors of the 36th Pennsylvania Infantry also known as the 7th Regiment Pennsylvania Reserve Corps. The regiment served in the eastern theater of war with the 1st and 5th Corps of the Army of the Potomac and for a short time was in the 3rd Corps of Pope’s Army of Virginia and the 22nd Corps of the Department of Washington.

The colors are displayed on the staff with the latter going diagonally across the image. The spear shaped finial is visible at top and close observation reveals that the staff runs through a sleeve on the hoist end of the color. Also present are the two tassels just below the finial.

The flag is spread out and reveals very little battle or wind damage such as tears and missing material. Clearly visible on one of the red stripes is “36th” while on the next red stripe below it is “7TH PENNA. RESERV…” The Coat of Arms of the state of Pennsylvania can clearly be seen in the flags canton.

Image is clear and clean with good contrast. Mount edges are clean. Upper corners are clipped.

Reverse has photographer’s mark that reads WOLFF’S GALLERY… ALEXANDRIA, VA. There is also some collector information in pencil.

The 36th Pennsylvania was organized on June 26, 1861. The regiment saw action at Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, Charles City Cross Roads, White Oak Swamp, 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Bethesda Church and Totopotomy Creek. During its service the regiment lost approx. 3 officers and 235 men killed died of wounds or disease with another 449 wounded and captured.
