Wonderful image taken at street level about a block from the Treasury building. Because the view is taken at street level you get a wonderful view of a 19th Century street in the Union capital during the war. Parked along the block are numerous fancy carriages with some of the drivers standing around and posing for the camera.
The fact that the street is otherwise deserted and MOST of the trees look to be bare and the carriages all look to be owned by wealthy people the thought comes to mind that the photo may have been taken during one of the Presidential inaugurations and what we are seeing is a parking area for the carriages of members of Congress. But this is only a supposition. Either way it is a great image.
Photo is clear with good contrast and is clean.
Reverse has photographer’s back mark for BRADY’S GALLERIES. [ad]
