This carte de visite shows the Confederate White House, Civil War home of Jefferson Davis -- Richmond, VA, circa 1865. This particular shot features a couple of details that differ from other commonly seen images. The tree on the right is quite full and there is some bunting with stars hanging over the entranceway.  The mount measures approximately 2 ½” x 5” and has “JEFF DAVIS MANSION, RICHMOND, VA” printed on the bottom edge, under the image.  No backmark. Corners of the mount are rounded. Image is clear.

The White House of the Confederacy is a historic house located in the Court End neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. Built in 1818, it was the main executive residence of the sole President of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis, from August 1861 until April 1865. It was viewed as the Confederate States counterpart to the White House in Washington, D.C. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.  [jet]
