Wonderful outdoor image showing a triple arch set up on the edge of a Syracuse street in front of several large buildings. The top most arch is surmounted by a medallion with “122” at center. The banners of the arch read “WELCOME HOME.” Below this top arch are two more arranged side by side. The arch on the left has a medallion with “149” at the apex. The banners forming the arch read “GETTYSBURG” and “MINE RUN.” The next arch begins with a medallion that has a 12th Corps badge at center. The arch itself reads “MARIE’S HEIGHTS.” There is also a medallion at top center of this arch also but it is too light to read.

The image is clear and clean with good contrast.

Reverse has photographer’s imprint for BONTA & CURTISS…SYRACUSE. There is also some collector’s information in pencil.

The 149th New York was raised in September of 1862 and was assigned to the 12th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The regiment saw its first action at Chancellorsville. They were also engaged at Gettysburg after which they went west with their Corps and eventually became part of the 20th Corps seeing action at Lookout Mountain, the Atlanta Campaign and March to the Sea as well as the Carolinas. The regiment was mustered out June 12, 1865.

The 122nd New York was raised in August of 1862 and was assigned to the 4th and later the 6th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. The regiment saw its first action at Antietam. They were also engaged at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. They saw action in Grant’s Overland Campaign at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Opequan, Fisher’s Hill, Cedar Creek and then back to Petersburg. The regiment was mustered out June 3, 1865.

This is a wonderful and rare view.   [ad]
