RARE 1862 OUTDOOR VIEW OF CARLISLE BARRACKS, PENNSYLVANIA WITH DEDICATION

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 945-74

Image is dominated by a long two story brick or stone building along the right side of the image. The building has three doors along its length and three chimney's protruding from the roof. This is obviously a barracks building. The left side shows another long building of a single story and looks to be a storage facility. Between the two building, in the background, is an even smaller white building that may be a dwelling. An arched driveway runs through the foreground with a carriage parked near the barracks.

Contrast of the image is a little light but all details are discernible. Mount edges have light surface dirt from age and storage.

Reverse has a light period pencil inscription that reads in part "PRESENTED TO MISS AMELIA S. JACOBS BY M. A. B.??? OCT. THE FIFTH 1862."

The 1860 Census shows only one Amelia S. Jacobs and she lived in Green Mount, Pennsylvania which is located just south of Gettysburg along the Emmitsburg Road.  [ad]
