This very unique CDV features an image of a parlor pump organ. True to Victorian style, this organ is very ornate with beautifully carved wooden scrollwork. Organ is marked just above keys, “BEATTY ORGAN / GOLDEN TOUNGE / DANIEL F. BEATTY, WASHINGTON, N.J. U.S.A.”. A vase of flowers sits on the top right.

Daniel F. Beatty was one of the first piano and organ manufacturers to utilize the mail order system to sell his instruments. Established about 1869 in Washington, New Jersey, Beatty sold instruments to farms and rural areas via mass mailings and aggressive advertising campaigns which were far ahead of their time. Beatty also sold organs under the name “Beethoven“. The Needham Piano Company took over control of Beatty’s business in about 1892.

No back mark or imprint. Image is clear with good contrast. Very light surface dirty is present.   [sl]
