Samuel B. Sumner was a 32 year old lawyer living in Great Barrington, MA when he enlisted as a Captain on 11/10/62. On that date he was commissioned into Co. D, 49th Mass. Infantry. Promoted to Lt. Col. on 11/10/62. Wounded 5/27/63 at Port Hudson, LA. Mustered out on 9/1/63 at Pittsfield, MA.
