This an original CDV of a Brady image often used in Civil War books and publications. The view is of Battery #4 at Yorktown which was manned by large mortars of the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery. Some of the officers of the regiment are visible in the background and the officer leaning against the mortar closest to the camera has been identified by historians as 1st Lieutenant Elijah Gibbons who later left the artillery and was killed with the 14th Connecticut at Fredericksburg while serving as Captain of that regiments Company B.
The image is clear with good contrast. Reverse bears a printed label that reads in part “BRADY’S ALBUM GALLERY NO. 375-BATTERY, NO. 4—NEAR YORKTOWN-MOUNTING 10 13-INCH MORTARS, EACH WEIGHING 20,000 POUNDS. EAST-SOUTH END.” The top left corner of the label is missing. It looks to have been improperly cut before it was applied to the back of the image.
