Full standing view of both Commodore Foote and his sister Eliza. They are posed beneath an arbor with two tiny chairs off to one side. The Commodore wears a dark double-breasted shell jacket with epaulettes and braid on the cuffs with matching dark trousers. Miss Eliza wears a flowing white dress with dark trim. The image is clear but the contrast is a little light. Bottom of mount has photographer’s imprint for C. D. FREDRICKS & CO. BROADWAY, NEW YORK.

Reverse has a poem called “COMMODORE FOOTE’S DREAM.” There is also some light surface dirt on the paper and mount.

Commodore Foote was born Charles W. Nestel in Fort Wayne, Indiana on September 14, 1848. Charles and his sister made their stage debut in 1861 and soon rose to be among the most popular acts on the stag doing command performances for Queen Victoria and President Lincoln. Commodore Foote lived to be 88 years old dying in Fort Wayne on April 17, 1937. He was buried there in Lindenwood Cemetery.
