CDV BUST VIEW ATTRIBUTED TO 50TH NEW YORK ENGINEER SOLDIER

$135.00 SOLD

Item Code: 217-234

CDV is bust view of a bearded soldier in a frock coat. There is a name in ink at bottom but it is difficult to read. A previous owner has ID the image as Carmie (also spelled Carnie) Joslin of Company H, 50th New York Engineers. The image is clear with good contrast. There is a streak of white on the paper just above the subjects head but this is rather subdued and does not hurt the image.

Reverse is blank except for collector information.

Carmie Joslyn was born in 1835 and was 27 years old when he enlisted in Company H of the 50th New York Engineers at Rome on August 26, 1862. He was promoted Corporal on February 1, 1863 and was mustered out June 13, 1865. During his time of service the 50th was assigned to the Army of the Potomac and saw service at Fredericksburg, Rappahannock Station, Deep Bottom, Franklin’s Crossing, Cold Harbor, Chickahominy and Petersburg. Company G saw service at Plymouth, North Carolina also. During its service the regiment lost 45 men killed, wounded and captured. After the war Joslyn returned to New York where he died on July 8, 1911. He was buried in North Bay Lawn Cemetery in Vienna, New York.
