Image shows Theodore C. Kibbe in the uniform of a Lieutenant in the Union army. Kibbe is posed slightly turned to his right. The vignette bust view allows only the top three buttons of his dark frock coat to be seen.

The image is clear with great contrast and moderate surface dirt. There is also some light foxing along the bottom edge.

The reverse of the image has a very nice period ink inscription that reads “THO. C. KIBBE / LT. + A.D.C. / NEW YORK.” There is also a photographer’s imprint for BENDANN BROTHER’S GALLERIES… BALTO. ST.

Theodore C. Kibbe was 28 years old when he enlisted as a Private in Company G, 4th New York Infantry on May 1, 1861 and was mustered in six days later. Before his first month of service was over Kibbe was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in Company C.

Upon arrival in Virginia the regiment was assigned to Newport News. On April 13, 1862 Lt. Kibbe was assigned to the staff of a General Morris as Aide de Camp. Along with the assignment came a promotion to 1st Lieutenant on April 30th. Lt. Kibbe remained on detached duty until his muster out on May 25, 1863.

Nothing is known of his post-war life.
