Image shows Albert Dodge of the 10th Vermont and 39th USCT sporting long muttonchops, mustache and beard wearing a dark single-breasted frock coat with shoulder straps.
The image is clear with very good contrast. There is some light surface dirt and the mount corners are clipped.
Reverse has a period pencil inscription that reads “CAPT. A. F. DODGE, 39TH REGT.U.S.C.T.” There is also a photographer’s imprint for P. L. PERKINS.
Albert F. Dodge enlisted as a Corporal in Company B, 10th Vermont Infantry on July 28, 1862 and was mustered in on the following September 1st. Dodge was promoted to Sergeant on February 17, 1863. He was discharged for promotion on March 21, 1864. During his time with the 10th it was engaged at Antietam and Orange Grove.
On March 4, 1864 Dodge was commissioned a Captain in Company F, 39th U.S.C.T. which saw service at Petersburg and Fort Fisher. He was mustered out on December 4, 1865. He was promoted to Major by brevet for meritorious service at Petersburg.
