CDV is a chest-up view of a Union soldier in uniform named James Wilson. He is wearing a dark colored, double-breasted coat. The bottom of the mount is marked with, “BRADY” on the left corner, and, “NEW YORK” on the right corner.
Reverse of image is marked with the photographer’s imprint, “BRADY’S, NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT GALLERIES, NO.352 PENNSYLVANIA AV. WASHINGTON D.C., BROADWAY & TENTH ST. NEW YORK”. There is a handwritten inscription on the reverse which reads, “JAMES WILSON, BR. BRIG GENL, PR. MAJ GENL, ARMY TENN”.
Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present.
James Wilson was born on April 29, 1820 in Is. St. Michael’s, Azores Is. He was promoted to a 1st Lieutenant on October 21, 1861. His list of promotions includes: Adjutant on March 24, 1862, Major on March 9, 1863, Lt. Col. on April 18, 1863, Colonel on January 19, 1865, and Brig-General on March 13, 1865. He died on January 8, 1888 in Newton, IA.
