Rare horizontal outdoor image of seven members of the 99th Ohio with musical instruments. Two men hold guitars, one a fiddle and one a triangle. The soldier at far left has no instrument and appears to be the leader. The two remaining men hold small instruments that may be fifes. The soldier at far left wears a sash that is tinted red and all have trousers tinted sky blue. The man at far right has trousers that are tinted a little heavier than the others.
The image is clear but the contrast is a bit light. Paper and mount have light to moderate surface dirt and the left edge of the paper is slightly chipped.
Reverse has a back mark of J. E. Smith... St. Marys, O and at bottom is a period ink inscription that reads "PRESENTED BY LT TRIMBLE, CO. K., 99TH O.V.I."
Henry M. Trimble was 20 years old when he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Company K of the 99th Ohio on July 25, 1862. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in Company E on November 3, 1864 and was mustered out on December 31st that same year.
The 99th Ohio served in the west from Stones River to Spring Hill.
A nice unique image.
