CDV is a full length view of a Union soldier in uniform named Phillip L. Hiteshew.  He is wearing a nine-button frock coat with matching vest, and trousers with a stripe down the leg. Captain Hiteshew is also wearing a Hardee hat with crossed sabers.

Reverse of image is stamped with the photographer’s imprint, “FROM MARKER’S GALLERY, FREDERICK, MD”.  Also on the reverse is the handwritten inscription, “P. L. HITESHAW, CAPT. CO. “I” 1^ST MD CAVALRY”.

Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present on edges.

Phillip L. Hiteshaw enlisted on September 3, 1861 as a Private in Co. “I”, 1st MD Cavalry. He was promoted to a Sergeant on September 3, 1861, as a 1^st Lieut. on August 28, 1863, and as a Captain October 29, 1864. He mustered out on August 8, 1865. He was listed as wounded on September 13, 1862 in Harper’s Ferry, WV. He served as the acting AA General in Evan’s Brigade, Kantz’s Division.
