CDV is a waist-up view of a Union soldier in uniform named Charles W. Andel. He is wearing a dark colored jacket with shoulder boards. There is a handwritten inscription at the bottom of the mount which reads, “2nd LT. C. W. ANDEL. CO “C” 7TH INFY. CAL. VOLS.”.
Reverse of image is marked with the photographer’s imprint, “WM. SHEW, 423 MONTGOMERY STRET, SAN FRANCISCO”. Also on the reverse is a green tax stamp.
Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present on edges.
Charles W. Andel enlisted on October 27, 1864 at Jackson, California as a 2ND Lieutenant in Co. “C” 7th CA Infantry. He was mustered out on April 26, 1866 at Presidio, San Francisco, CA.
