CDV is a waist-up view of a Union soldier in uniform named Charles W. Andel.  He is wearing a dark colored jacket with shoulder boards.  There is a handwritten inscription at the bottom of the mount which reads, “2^nd LT. C. W. ANDEL. CO “C” 7^TH INFY. CAL. VOLS.”.

Reverse of image is marked with the photographer’s imprint, “WM. SHEW, 423 MONTGOMERY STRET, SAN FRANCISCO”.  Also on the reverse is a green tax stamp.

Image is clear with good contrast. Some light surface dirt is present on edges.

Charles W. Andel enlisted on October 27, 1864 at Jackson, California as a 2^ND Lieutenant in Co. “C” 7^th CA Infantry. He was mustered out on April 26, 1866 at Presidio, San Francisco, CA.
