Reverse has a photographers imprint for D. FREDERICKS & CO. of New York and Paris. Reverse also has a canceled 2 cent tax stamp and a collector’s ID in pencil identifying the subject as Major Josiah Miller.
Josiah Miller was born in South Carolina and was commissioned a Major in the U. S. Paymasters Department on July 28, 1863. He resigned on May 17, 1864.
