CDV is a chest-up view of Adam Wilkin Beakes. He is wearing a dark colored civilian frock coat, light colored vest, white shirt and cravat.

Reverse has the photographer’s imprint which reads, “WHITE & PAYNE’S EXCELSIOR PHOTOGRAPHIC HALL, MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. COPIES CAN BE HAD BY SENDING NO. 186”.

Adam Wilkin Beakes was born on March 4, 1844 and enlisted on August 9, 1862 at the age of 18 in Walkill, New York as a Private. On September 5, 1862 He was mustered into Co. “E” 124th New York Infantry. At the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863 his arm was shattered and then amputated in a field hospital. He was discharged for disability on October 12, 1863 at Philadelphia. He eventually became a resident of New York City and worked for the Post Office, then went on become the Sheriff of Orange County. He died on March 3, 1921 in Middletown, New York.
