Carte de visite of Silas W. Leavitt of Company A, 14th New Hampshire Infantry. Full standing view in uniform. Wearing nine-button frock with chevrons, vest, and pants with stripe. Card mount is good with photographer’s imprint on back – C. S. Sanderson, Dover, N.H. Faint period pencil identification information on rear, “Father & Mother / Silas Married / August 30 1864”. ID was narrowed to Leavitt through online research including his marriage record, which is actually Aug. 30, 1866. Clear photo with good contrast and only slightest foxing.
Silas Leavitt was a 17-year-old resident of Upper Gilmanton, NH, when he enlisted as a Sergeant on 9/5/62. Mustered out 8/13/63.
