Nice detail on this bust view, though light in contrast. Light staining along left edge, lower left corner bent. Period ink ID on front, "Merritt Hayden". Modern ink & pencil IDs on reverse. BM: H. Lazier's Syracuse, N.Y.
Merritt Hayden enlisted at age 30 on 8/9/62 at Hastings, NY as a Private. On 8/11/62 he mustered into Co. D, 110th NY Infantry. He died of congestive fever on 8/12/63 at Port Hudson, LA. He is buried at Port Hudson National Cemetery in East Baton Rouge Parish, LA.
