CDV is a chest-up view of Colonel Thomas Cass. He is wearing a dark colored double breasted frock coat with shoulder boards. Bottom of mount is labeled, “COL. THOS. CASS. MASS. 9TH. J.H. BUFFORD PUB. BOSTON MASS. C.F. MORSE & CO. AGENTS, WASHINGTON.”

The reverse does not have a photographer’s imprint.

Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.

Colonel Thomas Cass (1821 – July 12, 1862) founded and was commander of the 9th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of the Union Army, which saw extensive service in the American Civil War. Cass was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill and died shortly after from his wounds in Boston, Massachusetts. A memorial statue to him stands in the Boston Public Garden.   [ad]
