Image is clear with light scattered foxing. Nicely signed in ink below image “Wm W. WOOD.”

Reverse has faint period pencil inscription at top that reads “CAPT. Wm. W. WOOD / Co. K 16th N.Y.S.V.” back mark is for P. TENNEY GATES, PLATTSBURGH, N. Y.

William W. Woods was 34 years old when he was commissioned Captain of Company K, 16th New York Infantry on April 27, 1861. He was captured at Salem Church and paroled. He was mustered out at Albany, N.Y. on May 22, 1863.

The regiment saw action at Bull Run, the Seven Days, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Salem Church.    [ad]
