Bust view shows Colonel Zeigle in a double-breasted frock coat with shoulder boards.

Image is clear with good contrast. Light surface dirt is present.

Reverse has back mark that reads, “ESTABLISHED 1796 / McALLISTER & BROTHER, OPTICIANS, 728 CHESNUT STREET, PHILADELPHIA”. Pencil inscription reads, “COL. THOMAS A. ZIEGLE / 16TH PA INFANTRY / ATTENDED GETTYSBURG COLLEGE”.

Thomas A. Zeigle was a resident of York, PA. He enlisted on April 20, 1861 as a Captain and was commissioned into the 16th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was mustered out on July 30, 1861 at Harrisburg, PA. On March 8, 1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff, 107th PA Infantry. He died on July 16, 1862 at Warrenton, Virginia. He received the promotion to Colonel on April 21, 1861, and again on March 8, 1862 as of the 107th PA Infantry.  [sl]
