Nice oval photo on a CDV mount of Captain Alfred Vezin. He wears a dark commercial sack coat with a white shirt and dark bow tie. He also wears a dark slouch hat. Bottom portion of the mount bears a period ink inscription of "A. VEZIN CAPT. CO. H 15TH P. V. C."

Image has great clarity and contrast and appears very clean.

Reverse is blank with collector information in pencil.

Alfred Vezin was born in Philadelphia in 1839. He enlisted as a Private in the Anderson Independent Company of Pennsylvania Cavalry on November 30, 1861. He was appointed Corporal on January 15, 1862 and to Sergeant May 15, 1862. When the Company was enlarged to a full regiment Vezin was commissioned Captain of Company C, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry on October 10, 1862. Vezin was transferred to Company H in March of 1863 and resigned on May 8, 1863.

After the war Vezin became a well-known hosiery manufacturer in the Frankford area. He died on April 15, 1881 and is buried in Philadelphia's Laurel Hill Cemetery.

The 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry was organized in October of 1862 and was assigned to the Army of the Cumberland. The regiment saw action at Stones River, Mossy Creek and several smaller skirmishes.

During its service the regiment lost 128 officers and men killed, died of wounds and disease plus many others wounded.  [ad]
