Back mark: “E. & H.T. Anthony, New York…From Photographic Negative in Brady’s National Portrait Gallery.” Clean crisp image of Humphreys as single-star Brigadier General before receiving promotion of Major General of Volunteers for his gallant services during the Battle of Gettysburg.
Appointed Chief of Staff by General Meade, upon Gen. Hancock’s departure, Humphreys assumed command of the Union 2nd Corps, and received a regular brevet for services at Saylor’s Creek just prior to the confederate surrender at Appomattox. Humphreys took part in seventy engagements in a military career that spanned 52 year. Solid collectible for Civil War Commander aficionados. [jp]
