Nice vignette bust image of Headley in a dark civilian suit.

Image is clear with excellent contrast. Mount and paper are good but the lower edge of the mount does have a dark stain as does upper right corner.

Reverse has photographer’s imprint for S.S. HULL’S…WILKES-BARRE, PA. There is also a wonderful period ink inscription “YOURS TRULY G. F. HEADLEY 15th PENNA. CAV.

George F. Headley was born in 1839. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry on August 2, 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on May 5, 1863 and transferred to Company E. He was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on June 1, 1865 and was mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee on June 21, 1865.

Nothing is known of his post-war life other than that he married and later died in 1897. Headley is buried in Newton Cemetery in Newton, Pennsylvania.  [ad]
