Charles Wheeler was a 25 year old physician from Boylston, MA, who enlisted as Private and was mustered into Co. G”, 15th Mass. Infy, 12/5/1861. He was discharged for promotion on 12/17/1861 and three days later commissioned as an Asst. Surgeon in the field and staff of the 12th Mass. Infy. He was wounded in the Wilderness, 5/5/1864, and mustered out 7/8/1864. Wheeler died in Boston, 2/11/1904.
Excellent collectible for CW medical corps aficionados. Carte de Visites of doctors wounded in action are rare. Invites further research. In protective sheath. [JP]
