Clean full standing view of a cavalryman posed at the position of “PARADE REST.” The subject is standing in front of a painted backdrop of a camp scene composed of Sibley tents alongside a lake. The soldier wears a forage cap with a turned up bill, cavalry shell jacket, light trousers, waist belt with shoulder support strap and saber. Stuffed in the front of the soldier’s belt is what looks to be a .44 Remington revolver. Back has blue tax stamp and photographers artwork and imprint of “GEO. P. HOPKINS…ALBION, N.Y.” Contrast and clarity is good. There is a line of sunlight running diagonally across the soldier’s legs that looks like a blemish but it is not.
