Image shows a bearded officer in profile. He wears a dark frock coat with 1st Lieutenant shoulder straps with “MS” in the rank field. The coat is open to reveal a dark military vest. The vest is also open to reveal a bright white shirt and dark bow-tie.

Image is clean and clear with great contrast. Bottom corners of mount are clipped.

Reverse has back mark for M. MOULTHROP…NEW HAVEN, CONN.

This surgeon could be from one of the Connecticut regiments or from Knights General Hospital which was also in New Haven.
