This CDV is a three-quarter seated view of a young Confederate 2nd Lieutenant. He is posed with one arm resting on a table next to him. He wears a light colored waist length jacket with matching light trousers. A close look at the jacket collar shows what looks to be the single bar of a 2nd Lieutenant’s rank. At his waist is his sword belt with cross-shoulder strap and a two piece tongue and wreath buckle.
The contrast of the image is a little on the light side and that keeps us from seeing the design on his belt plate. Otherwise the image is clean and clear. Beneath the subjects left elbow is the number “212” over the number “3.”
The reverse is marked CHS. R. REES & CO. PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTS, RICHMOND, VA.
