This CDV is bright and fairly clean. The subject is posed seated in a chair with his right arm resting on a table. He wears a forage cap with crossed sabers. There are numbers between the sabers on either side of the insignia. They are difficult to discern but maybe “14.” The subject also wears a single-breasted frock coat with 2nd Lieutenant shoulder straps with a plain dark field similar to those worn by a Staff Officer. Under the coat is a matching military vest and the Lieutenant also wears dark trousers with a thin light leg stripe which is correct for officers.
The image is clear with great contrast.
The reverse has a photographer’s imprint of M. CARPENTER… WARREN, PA.
