Backmark: “Chas. Paxson/ Photographer/ New York”. The slave girl caption appears at the lower margin of this cdv featuring young girl with light, white “Octaroon” complexion, posed in a bonnet. The image is crisp & sharp, though lightly faded, with upper right corner slightly clipped. Else VG. Reverse note states that “The net proceeds from the sale of these photographs will be devoted to the education of Colored People in the Department of the Gulf, now under the command of Major General Banks.” Girl bears a resemblance to the slave girl Rebecca featured in other similar images.  Excellent collectible.
