This fine condition post-Civil War image is large-size albumen photo of the Vermont Grand Army of the Republic Post # 1, also known as the Chamberlain Post. The sepia- toned photo measures 9¼” long x 6½” high and is centered on a large, cream colored paper backing, all set in a 17” x 14” sized, period wooden frame. Has modern paper backing as the back seal. Image depicts six, identified, white-haired Civil War veterans standing or seated in friendly discussion. Names are handwritten in black ink from left to right in the back row: G.H. Nelson, Harvey Noyes, H.S. Powers; front row: W.T. Reed, C. A. Heyer, and Moody Evans. All the men wear their civilian clothes or G. A. R. uniform apparel. Their GAR membership badges are clearly visible. Wood frame is in very good condition with light scuffing in spots. A great collectible in need of further research.
