This collage of images comes displayed in a painted black wooden shield-shaped frame. Image at top is a drawing of the U.S. flag behind sailor with the words, “AHOY! THE LITTLEST SAILORS”. Image on left is a CDV standing view of a young boy in a dark colored Zouave jacket with collar, trousers and boots. Backmark reads, “F. CLAPSADEL, PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST, WILCOX BLOCK, MAIN ST. FAINESVILLE, OHIO”. Image is very clean, and clear with good contrast. Image on right is a CDV standing view of a young boy in a dark colored Zouave jacket, baggy trousers and hat with tassel. Backmark reads, “THORN, PHOTOGRAPHER OVER THE BANK, BLOOMFIELD, N.J.” Image has light spotting but is clear with good contrast. Lower image is a gem sized tintype in brass mat of a waist-up view of a young man with very short hair. He is wearing a light colored militia uniform jacket with stripes on the shoulders, a white shirt with collar showing, and a cravat. It was popular during the Victorian / Civil War era to create matching uniforms for sons.
Frame is in very good condition and measures 10 ¼” wide x 14” high. Has hinged easel on back for standing. [sm]
