OUTDOOR CDV VIEW OF OLD CAPITOL PRISON BY BRADY

$125.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 259-188

The Old Capitol in Washington, D.C. served as temporary Capitol of the United States from 1815 to 1819. The building was a private school, a boarding house, and, during the Civil War, a prison known as the "Old Capitol Prison." It was razed in 1929 and the site is now occupied by the U.S. Supreme Court building.

Image captures the entire building along with a high iron fence enclosing its yard. One person sits in an open second story window in the front of the building while several persons stand in the street and by the open side door is what looks to be a guard.

Image is clear with good contrast and is clean.

Reverse has an attached paper label that reads “BRADY’S ALBUM GALLERY NO. 10 / OLD CAPITOL, WASHINGTON.” This is followed by copyright information bearing the date 1862.  [ad]
