MYERSTOWN PENNSYLVANIA INFANTRY PRIVATE

$45.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: P14020

This infantry private is posed with his forage cap on and his enlisted frock coat stylishly buttoned at the throat but thrown open to show his dark vest and light blue issue trousers. The backdrop behind him is plain, but he rests his elbow on an elaborately carved chair and heavily brocaded curtain with cord shows he is in a formal studio, which the backmark of photographer C.J.I. Murray in Myerstown, Pa., confirms. Myerstown is in Lebanon County, which furnished troops to the 5th, 36th, 50th, and 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry, among others. The upper corners of the card were rounded for insertion in an album page, likely by a family member. There is no tax stamp, which indicates an early or mid-war date.  [SR]
