Image shows a young black man who looks to be between 16-19 years of age. He is posed between a draped column and a high-backed chair. He wears a medium colored suit with matching vest and white shit and bowtie. He is posed with one hand resting on his hip and the other on the back of the chair. Off to the right is a period ink notation that reads “DIED OCT 1 1869.”
Image is clear with good contrast. A close look reveals a “ghost image” behind the subject. It appears that this image was mounted over a different photograph. This was done back when the photo was produced and is not a modern alteration.
