Backmark: “Photographed by/ Keely/ Philadelphia.” This image is a sharp and quite attractive pen & ink drawing of large, log sergeant’s shanty, w/flagpole & two pine trees in the foreground.

The 119th PA Infantry was organized in Philadelphia in August 1862. It was attached to the 6th Corps, Army of the Potomac, with which it served throughout the war, participating in all the major campaigns, and engaged at the battle of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoe Station, the Wilderness & Spotsylvania (Mule Shoe salient), Cold Harbor & the Siege of Petersburg, and was present at Appomattox at Lee’s surrender in April 1865, mustering out 6/19/ 1865. During service it lost 141 men killed and mortally wounded, and 72 by disease for a total of 213.

An excellent memento for Pennsylvania regimental buffs and aficionados of the 119th PA.  [jp]
