CDV depicts a young bearded Lieutenant posed leaning on a draped column. He wears a dark frock coat and matching dark trousers. The trousers have the thin light colored leg stripe correct for an officer but his shoulder straps are odd. At first they look like normal straps with just a heavy black border which is unusual enough, but a closer look with a loop shows them to be rectangular pieces of dark cloth or felt with a thin strip of gold cord running down the center.
Image has excellent clarity and contrast. Mount corners are clipped.
Reverse has photographer’s imprint for W. J. MOULTON…ELMIRA, N.Y. [AD]
