This is a carte de visite image of a Union soldier in full uniform. He wears a 9-button frock with 1st Sergeant chevrons, kepi, sash and belt posing with his NCO sword. Image is clear with good contrast.
Reverse has very weak pencil signature which cannot be completely deciphered. “Sergt. _______ / Battery M” is all that can be easily read. In addition there is a pre-printed photographer’s label pasted in the center. PEIN & CO in Washington City (DC). [jet]
