Image shows an officer and his wife standing by a balustrade and column. The officer wears a dark forage cap with an infantry hunting horn on the front, dark double-breasted frock coat with matching dark trousers. Shoulder straps are visible on the coat but the rank cannot be made out. At his waist the officer wears a sash and waistbelt with attached Model 1850 sword. He is posed with his arms folded across his chest.
Standing next to the officer is a woman believed to be his wife. She wears a bonnet with a lace front, a dark shawl and a dark dress with light print pattern.
Image has very good clarity and good contrast. Paper and mount are good but do have some light surface dirt and edge wear.
Lower left corner of the mount is stamped with J. P. BALL. A notation on the reverse in modern pencil says that Ball was located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Reverse is blank. [ad]
