Full standing view of an officer with a cape draped over his shoulder. He stands proudly by a high-backed chair with one arm resting on his sword. He wears a dark frock coat with matching trousers. The cape is also dark and is back far enough to reveal one of his shoulder straps but the rank cannot be made out. The subject is wearing a sword belt with rectangular plate. Just visible on his hip is his Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword. The image is clear with good contrast. There is one small curl to the lower right corner of the paper.
Reverse has photographers imprint of J. A. SCHOLTEN…ST. LOUIS.
