Front of case shows an embossed image of the George Washington Monument at the Capitol building in Richmond, Virginia. The base of the monument includes statues of six other noted Virginians who took part in the American Revolution: Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Andrew Lewis, John Marshall, George Mason, and Thomas Nelson Jr. On February 22, 1862, the monument was the location for the second inauguration of the President and Vice President of the Confederate States. Elements of the statue were incorporated into the Seal of the Confederate States.
Back of case shows an embossed fleur de lis in the center. Corners of both front and back of case are flanked by angels blowing trumpets and eagles with patriotic shields.
Hinges and clasps are fully functional. Case is meant to fit a half plate sized image. Inside of case on left is lined with wine colored embossed velvet. Maker’s label from Scovill Mfg. Co. is present on the right.
Case measures approximately 5” by 6”. Edges have very slight chipping. [sl]
