This ambrotype shows a Union soldier from just below the waist up. The subject has the look of a new recruit as all his equipment and uniform appear to be lightly used. The subject wears an extended forage cap with a dark sack coat and light trousers. The sack coat has some very narrow Corporal stripes on the sleeves. He also wears his waist belt with cap box, cartridge box and sling minus the plates and his canteen and haversack. At his side is what looks to be a Model 1842 musket. The image is very clear and crisp. All exposed brass has a touch of gilt and the cheeks and chin have a hint of red.
The image comes in a full brass mat and frame as well as a full cloth covered case.
