Three-quarter standing view of a very young soldier holding his musket at the position of “SHOULDER ARMS.” He wears a dark slouch hat curled up along the edge with a dark hatband passing around the base of the crown. He wears a dark “Battle Shirt” with light colored piping around each breast pocket, cuffs and front placket. The shirt is held closed by three buttons, the top one being off center from the other two. A solid white fold down collar shows that another shirt is being worn under the dark one. The trousers are also dark and match the shirt. Around the subject’s waist is a narrow leather belt with a non-descript buckle. Attached to the belt and hanging at the subject’s side is a pistol. The type cannot be determined but the holster can be seen as well as the flat surface at the bottom of the pistol grip.
The soldier’s face has been lightly tinted.
One interesting thing to note is the grip the soldier has on his rifle. Instead of holding the trigger guard with the thumb and forefinger he has just stuck his forefinger through the guard and is letting it hang in place.
The image is very clear with good contrast. The item is really in excellent condition over all. It comes housed in a half case with brass mat and frame.
