Waist up ambrotype of a very young Confederate soldier who could not be more than 16 or 17 years old and who stares rather sadly into the camera. The subject wears a dark forage cap with an upturned visor and a light colored coat with a high collar. The top four buttons of the coat are visible and are close together which shows that the garment has either a nine or twelve button front. A close examination of the buttons reveals them to be of three-piece domed construction but any device on them is impossible to make out.
The image is very clear with great contrast. Image comes housed in a sparkling clean brass mat and frame with a very nice conditioned cloth case.
A wonderful image in all respects.
