Charming image of a mother and her children. They are posed with the mother seated and flanked by her daughter and son. Mom wears a dark dress with lace collar and white undersleeves. On one side of her is her young daughter, perhaps 9 or 10 years old. She rests on arm on her mother’s shoulder. The girl wears a bonnet a light colored dress with cape or it could be an overcoat. On the other side of Mom is a little boy of approx. 6 or 7 years old. He wears a dark short jacket with matching trousers. The coat has a white collar. In his hand the child holds a dark civilian cap with a visor.

The image is clear with great contrast. The subject’s cheeks are lightly tinted.

Because this is an ambrotype the back was blackened by the photographer to better see the image on the front. Over the years this blacking has chipped in several places causing blemishes to show up when the image is held to the light. However, the face of the image itself is fine.

Comes with a very nice crosshatched brass mat and decorative frame. Three-quarters of the edge is wrapped in black electrical tape but this can be removed.  [ad]
