SIXTH PLATE AMBROTYPE OF A MUSICIAN WITH OVER THE SHOULDER HORN

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-4750

Subject is a young man seated by a table on which his elbow and kepi rest. He wears what looks to be a dark 9-button shell jacket with a high light collar with matching dark trousers. The jacket has brass shoulder scales attached. They slip under a cloth loop and then fasten to turnbuckles closer to the collar. Each of the jacket cuffs have 3 buttons and the trousers have a thin light leg stripe. The jacket is open to reveal a white shirt and a good sized dark bowtie with a loud pattern of decoration. Cradled in the subjects lap is an over the shoulder sax horn.

Image is very clear with good contrast. There is some discoloration in a ring around the subject but nothing that affects the image.

The ambrotype is housed in a metal hinged leather case with a press button latch that appears to be later than Civil War period. Image has the original brass mat with scroll decoration and brass frame.  [ad]
