This is a full standing view of a Confederate officer wearing a light colored frock coat, slouch hat, and light colored trousers. His hands rest on his sword, which is hanging on a sword belt.
Image is mostly clear with good contrast, but face is darkened and right side has smudge marks. The insignia, buttons, etc. have been tinted gold. Reverse of glass plate has the form of the soldier outlined and filled in with black, which indicates this image was taken by Charles R. Rees, a well-known photographer of the period with a studio in Richmond.
Image comes housed in full gutta-percha case, which is in very good condition. Case is lined with dark purple colored velvet with an embossed design. Decorative brass mat surrounds the image. [sl]
